Where does your treasure lie? What is your treasure? Jesus says that our treasure is where our heart is. He also says that we must store up treasure in heaven not here on earth. Our eyes should be set on the coming kingdom not this earthly kingdom where “treasure” can be destroyed or stolen. Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
We are human so it is difficult sometimes to stay focused on heavenly things when we are dealing with earthly problems or heart breaking circumstances. Are we guilty of allowing our families to be our treasure or perhaps our jobs or maybe even drugs or alcohol? We get caught up in dealing with our own problems that we only give God one hour a week on Sunday with an occasional prayer; forgetting our life is not our own, we belong to Him. We were purchased at a price that most of us are not willing to pay.
Our treasure should be Jesus and His saving grace and we should be sharing our Savior with others. Our eternal life should be our daily focus not this earthly one. This life will end but our soul will live forever. Doesn’t it make more sense to be focused on the eternal kingdom rather than a mere 60, 70 or 80 years on earth? Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. John 18 36
Jesus lived His life according to the scriptures. His entire ministry was focused on the treasures in heaven. He pursued righteousness and was obedient and faithful to God to the very end. He lived and died so that we might live with Him for eternity in heaven. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, so that who so ever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Search your heart for purpose in this life. Use your gifts to store up treasures in heaven. God delights in those who seek righteousness. but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:24
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you. 1 Peter 13-25
May your treasures be many.
